What's Your Human Design Authority? The Only Decision-Making Tool You Actually Need

Most people make decisions using their mind. The brain runs a cost-benefit analysis, weighs pros and cons, asks what makes sense, and calls that wisdom. The result: chronic second-guessing, decisions that feel right on paper but wrong in the body, and a life that looks good from the outside but costs you your aliveness.
Human Design calls this Conditioned Decision-Making. It is the primary source of most people's suffering.
What Is Human Design Authority?
Your Authority is the specific body-based intelligence designed to make decisions for you. Not your brain. Not your logic. Not what your parents told you. The Authority is the part of your system that has access to truth, and it speaks through sensation, feeling, sound, and timing, not through thought.
The 7 Authorities in Human Design
1. Sacral Authority
The Sacral is a gut response. It speaks in sounds: uh-huh (yes) or unh-unh (no). It's immediate and pre-verbal. If you have Sacral Authority, your job is to respond to yes/no questions and listen to what your body says before your mind has time to interfere. The Sacral does not work retroactively. It responds in the moment or not at all.
2. Emotional Authority
The most common and most misunderstood. If you have a defined Solar Plexus, your truth is not accessible in any single moment. You need to ride your emotional wave across time. Never make a major decision at a peak or a valley. Wait for clarity, which feels like a settled knowing after the initial excitement or contraction passes. There is no such thing as complete clarity here, but there is a point of enough.
3. Splenic Authority
The Spleen speaks once, quietly, and never repeats itself. It is the oldest, most primal intelligence in the body, the survival awareness system that knows danger and safety before the mind has processed anything. If you have Splenic Authority, your truth is a soft whisper in the present moment. Miss it and it is gone. Learning to hear the Spleen requires deep stillness and trust in quiet body signals.
4. Ego / Heart Authority
Ego Authority speaks through willpower and through what you want. The key questions are: What do I want? and What am I willing to commit to? This is not selfishness, it is honesty. People with Ego Authority are designed to trust their desires as wisdom, not suppress them.
5. Self-Projected Authority
Self-Projected Projectors discover truth by talking it out. Not to get advice, but because the act of speaking reveals what is actually true. The key is to speak to someone who will listen without responding, then notice what comes out of your own mouth. If it feels true as you say it, it probably is.
6. Mental / Sounding Board Authority
There is no inner authority for these types. Truth is found by talking things through with trusted people across different environments and across time. You are not taking advice. You are using conversation as a mirror to hear yourself.
7. Lunar Authority (Reflectors only)
Reflectors are designed to wait a full lunar cycle (28 days) before making major decisions. Not indecision. Correct timing for a being whose clarity is moon-dependent. Each day the moon transits different gates, and tracking how you feel about a decision across this full cycle reveals genuine truth.
How to Start Using Your Authority Today
Step one: know which Authority you have. Pull your Human Design chart at any free chart generator. Find your Inner Authority field. That is your starting point.
Step two: stop making decisions from your mind for 30 days. Every time you face a choice, pause. Ask your body. Wait for the signal that matches your Authority type. Notice what happens.
Step three: if you want a direct read on your complete design, including how your Authority interacts with your Type, Profile, and defined Centers, book a Navigation Intensive. One 90-minute session gives you a working map of your entire system, not just one piece.
Your body already knows. The only question is whether you are listening.
